Moga is a warm, close-knit Malwa town where farming, family and faith set the rhythm of life.
Work and money
- Most of the district's land is farmed: wheat, paddy, maize and oilseeds.
- Dairy is big, helped by the Nestlé plant since 1961.
- Moga is often called the "NRI district": many families have relatives in Canada, the UK and the USA.
Food
Hearty Punjabi food rules: sarson da saag with makki di roti, stuffed parathas, chole bhature, lassi and plenty of sweets. Roadside dhabas on the highways are always busy.
Festivals and culture
- Baisakhi, Lohri, Maghi, Diwali and Gurpurabs are celebrated with great energy.
- Bhangra, Giddha and Gatka are part of every big celebration.
- People speak Punjabi in the Malwai dialect.
Places people love
- Gurdwaras such as Nanaksar Sahib and Mehdeana Sahib.
- Parks like Shaheedi Park and Nehru Park for evening walks.
- The Main Bazaar for clothes, juttis and everyday shopping.
